modo's chest plate

okay.........

this is one thing i've always been curious about also... What is that chest plate anyway? Is it for pure

protection or does it have other use also..?

In the episode "we don't need no stinkin' city" in the end of that ep, it looks like modo is taking his gun from behind his back, from the backside of his chestplate...?? does it include somekinda place for a gun, too??

what's the story behind that weird thing? anyone?

I think it's just a mix of armor and fassion.  Really no reason behind it other than to look macho.

A friend of mine said that it was a simple chest plate used by bikers (maybe adapted for Modo's character)but she didn't say anything else. But yeah, I agree with Nova.

And... LOL at the gun. It's a cartoon and as usual the characters do strange stuff like taking things from "somewhere".

i guess so because when i saw that episode again a few months back ago I really had to rewind back and look "where did he just took that???" XD and also one thing that's curious is that in the earlier episodes Modo has that laser gun but then he stops using it suddenly (for obvious reasons of course XD )

If it's a chest plate used by bikers they removed the leather jacket I usually see it with :)

Some of my friends and I were once discussing anime physics and surmised that the characters that are able to pull big things from out of nowhere either carry around pocket dimensions or store it in The Umbra.

I don't know much about bikers armour, but as a re-enactor I'd say if Modo is wearing it for protection purposes it doesn't actually do much apart from cover his ribcage - and even then there's big gaps to act as targets. I'm guessing it'd work well in a crash but not so well against lasers.

Personally I'd err more towards it being a fashion statement rather than something that's solely practical.

@Torama: yeah. Maybe it looks weird because Modo doesn't wear a jacket XD

@NubsFan: Well, if you remember, in the 2nd episode of the 1st season, Vinnie grabs from somewhere a very BIG blaster because Modo has destoyed the ball with which they were playing XD

:D :D that scene was so funny...! "What? No guns..??!" XD

yes, i guess so the chest plate it only for fashion statement because like said before, it doesn't do so much covering anyway... it's just to look cool XD

The armour is supposed to be part of the jacket! XD

Another thought which came up fast enough for me to think I've thought it before at some stage, it could be some interface thingi to do with the metal arm unless he had it before then as well (my memory fails me there and I am much too lazy to look it up).

Well pretty much every episode that I can remember he's always wearing it - but in Once Upon a Time on Mars he's wearing just a t-shirt, then when he wakes up in Karbunkle's lab he's still got the t-shirt but also has one pauldron showing. However there's no evidence of the rest of the armour being present!

yes, he is not wearing the chest plate in OUTOM episodes although I was in some point also thinking it might have something to do with the metal arm...but there isn't evidence for that. the paldron showing in those episodes (and the other eps also)is maybe due the fact that the drawing group didn't have to deal with the drawing of the actual connection point for the metal arm to the body... There are sometimes seen these pipes going inside Modo's right side but it's still a bit unknown how that arm is really attached to him...I mean there has to be something to do with the nervous system or something since he's able to move the hand the way he wants right from the start whe he got that arm in OUTOM.. but the actual chest plate has always interested me, since it looks kinda weird in shape, it looks like it could include some functional things as well but that's just my imagination I guess...

UNh... in OUTOM he didn't wear it and, yes, his shoulder was covered by the pauldron when Karbunkle applied the metal arm. But I think that this is only for an aesthetical reason or to cover the connection between the shoulder and the metal arm, that can be disgusting to see, don't you think? After all the pauldron has the job to cover the shoulder.

But in "The pits" (the cut scene) we clearly see Modo without his chest plate and on the right shoulder he still wears the pauldron. I think that he refuses to put it off, but this is only a my theory °x°

Unh.. sexeeeehhhh

Hehe, that depends, I don't see a ring. *runs off to SPPAAAAAACEE*

'though honestly, it's from growing up with shows that have big manly males (as depicted above) in various forms of peril/half-dress.

As for the original topic:  It's called Hammerspace, and 40% of what's unexplainable can be attributed to animators cutting corners.

This does look a bit like Modos chest plate: http://www.freestylextreme.com/dk/Home/Vare/M%C3%A6nd/MX-Udstyr-M%C3%A6nd/MX-Beskyttelsesudstyr/Sort-Alpinestars-A8-Bns-MX-Brystbeskyttelse.aspx?ProdID=124086

Yes, it's a motorcross chest plate and my theory is, that Modo's a motorcross fan and has modifide his chest plate a bit.

You have a point ^^ I read from a friend that "Modo" is the name of a curve of the motocross track. But, I'm not sure if this is true or not.Unh... I have to check it out.

could be - though I think it's a French term, never heard motocross riders use it in the UK! lol I'm lucky that I live near a wicked motocross track though ;)

Modo being a motocross term?  Interesting, if true.  His is the only Martian name I haven't yet found a motorbike/weapon link for.

It would have a sense since Modo wears a chest plate used by a motocrosser.

(Nice your quote in your signature, Umberto Eco ehehehe one of the best Italian writers ^^)

LOl looking up Modo is an interesting search. In Itilan it means way or manner.  Sooo I could see it with Modo always having the good manners. But in other languages it can mean music soo still is Modo.

I always thought that Modo name comes from the word "motor"... And this motorcross link is very interesting... One could have thought Vinnie have that connection with motorcross, been the best biker and all, and still wasn't it said in some ep that Vinnie is the best motorcross racer in the whole galaxy or something as humble? XD

Well, I don't think his name is related to his Italian meaning X°D (I'm Italian, don't forget). But, yes, we make a lot of jokes about his name LOL Oh, and also about Throttle's name, because of its pronunce that sounds like a toy called "Trottola", the spinning top. It's a pity that not everyone could understand these jokes X°D
