I had this thought for a while now, and I can't help but having some gut feeling which says I'm about the only fan around from who also had seen and experienced the old series, liking the new series just as much. Just in a different form. But in general just the same.

Yeah, a lot of things have been changed and updated. But it's been ten years ago and things can change in such time.

I believe the Biker Mice from Mars 'crew' have done a great job and I can't wait watching them once again in a cool updated jacket. And yeah, that includes their look, the bikes, etc.

Sorry for the rant, just needed to vent it :o :)

Alright...I'm gonna talk about some stuff here, and maybe explain better why I don't like it? If I'm wrong, just let me know and I'll make a new post, or if you can split this off into a new topic that'd be fine. :)

There are some things I like, but more that I greatly dislike. And as I tend to be very vocal about what I don't like, it might come across that I just hate the whole mess of it.

That's not true.

I would also like to say, that even though I don't like the designs, some of the color choices and other various bits, I -still- have the greatest love and respect for Tom, Rick and all of the other people responsible for the show. :)

None of my ragging about the green, or mocking the fact that the mice now resemble skinny chickens, or even wondering if Stoker is really Darth Vader in disguise should be taken personally against you guys. ;)

I just like to mock the things I don't like because it helps me better tolerate them. If I can sit and giggle about Throttle using the turtle wax on the ATM, then it helps me stand seeing it.

That said, I love the story (such as it is so far. I haven't seen much of it.) And the guys sound like they stepped out of the studio for a lunch break rather than ten years! That's great. :D

As for the disappointments:

I just expected the animation to look a bit less like shockwave flash...and the bikes to blend in. (They are getting a little better, though, I do cede that. :) And I acknowledge that the quality on YouTube isn't the best it can be for these.)

And also, because I never actually noticed hot, studly, buff guys going out of style, I was shocked and disappointed to find them so skinny.

I do love the new villains, because the do have the potential to be both hilarious and scary at the same time. (My favorite is Hairball because he's a total nutjob.) At first I was dismayed that it wasn't still the Plutarkians, but I suppose there was only so long they could be the main villans.

I don't know how badly you all are playing this towards the kiddies, but I'm scared for you if that's what you're betting the garage on. I'm not entirely certain that kids today are into bikes and rock and roll. Most of them are into anime, giant robots, the flic-du-jour at the theater and other such stuff. I've never met a little kid on the street who talks about motorcycles...never. I'm sure there are kids out there that do adore the bikes, but they're fewer and farther between than the billions who worship NASCAR and other stuff like that. (Me, I like motorcycles. I've always been partial to the sound of 'em. Most kids are freaked out because they're loud.)

And I'm just musing on that last bit, but I really do wish the best on this.

I'll just keep watching, then replaying it in my head to enjoy them as studly mice from Mars again. (With black motorcycles. Bwahaha. You know I couldn't discuss it without mentioning it -once-...that would break my record, wouldn't it? ;))

I'm trying really hard not to bitch, because as I noted in another thread for me it's stemming from "that's not what I would have done." We've been analyzing this stuff for ten years. A little of that is inevitable.

But the dialogue is what I feel in love with, and it's still there. The latest clip proved that (*snicker* "smart-aleky turtles"). I'm telling them to put it on DVD so I can watch it NOW! I may have to wait on toys because my new nephew is just a month old, and I don't collect that stuff.

So nah, Vinnie, they're going to have to turn Modo into a mass murderer before I give up on it. Even though I could write up a script on giving Throttle a new hairstyle. *HINT, HINT*

I need to actually SEE the new series before I pass judgement, this trailer trash just doesn't do it for me P

Yeh, so not into trailers, I have too much time then to critically analyse them (horrible side effect of having my type of brain AND doing film units at uni AND being into 3d).

I have to say, I prefer the new look (aside from the colouring job, and that's the colouring in general not the new colour schemes). Hated the overbuff steroided looks coz I hate lots of muscles. Muscle things are freaky. I really want to take a pin to bodybuilders and see if they pop.

If it starts airing or I can get my hands on a copy of a dvd from somewhere, I'll let you know what I think of The Important Things P

i like the new series!!
there's always gonna be one or two things that a person may not like(understandable) but overall, I like it...I think they've done it well..
a lot of fans have to understand that things change overtime, and well comic book style animation REALLY isn't the big thing anymore. it's now all about the anime or the american anime which is why I think they did it. Kids will love it, and as much as they do want the old generation, there is a part where they have to also cater to the younger generation.
what matters to me more than anything is if they kept the good ol' humour that the bros had, what their characters are like, the hidden jokes that were always a little bit more adult, etcetera =). and so far from what i've seen, they have.

After watching some of the clips, I gotta admit, the series is growing on me. I'm getting used to the guys's new builds (though that wasnt' what threw me off). And I gotta admit, the Catatonians are funny. Hairball's a riot. XD

You have every right to express your opinion, Vinnie. :)

I think alot of the old fans (like myself) are just having a hard time getting used to these new designs. But, we know the characters, we love them, and alot of us are excited about the new ones as well (Cataclysm is so bad-ass!!!!)
Give the other fans time, I'm sure we'll all come around. Since being in the US keeps me from getting to actually SEE the show when it comes out tomorrow, I'm begging you (or anyone) to tell me all about it. I'm so excited, and so upset I can't see it myself.
I have been waiting for this for years dammit!!!

My fandom wears lots of leather. ;)

I think a lot of old fans (as with anyone else with any kind of change) just find it hard to accept change and adapt full stop P

Still it'd be nice if the old series was on dvd (or more readily available if it is, I can't remember though I do remember there being a thread regarding it at once stage) for old time's sake for the oldschool fans.

After a few days of talking with other fans about the new series they are kinda liking the new series from what they could see from the previews, etc. But still very sceptical or negative about their appearence.

I mean... yes they are different, but cracking them down into ugly figures who wouldnt be worth called anything sounds a bit bitter in my mouth.

As far as I could have heard, the series are become quite popular in the UK and that wouldnt be that big if the bros would look that bad, would they?

Just my personal opinion that the bros and rest are looking different, but not worse then their younger/earlier selfs. I think the animators did just fine! :) *thumbs up*

I love it. I wake up early on Saturday mornings for it, and sleeping in is one of my favourite activities. I also loved the old series, and I keep up a constant search for videos at car boot sales. I don't really have a life.

Well, from what I have seen on youtube, I am for sure curious.

I certainly hope that the series gets over into Germany as soon as possible.

But also I find a few things changed up bad, but others have improved.

Well, the main heros less and the main baddies more muscular. Hmm... That can of course rather fit the freedom fighter scene, considdered that a plundered planet like the Mars after the Plutarkian occupation hadn't the much to support many overly muscle mice.
Imagine the immense costs for hot dogs... :P
Personally, with that arm and boots reminds me Modo about a characters from Megaman... x.x
Well... on Earth COULD that change. We have lots of healthy air and food, so don't give up the hopes... perhaps they will buff up on the bigger gravity we have. ;) (let's face it, earth is slightly bigger than Mars. ;))

Anyway, what I saw on YouTube looks indeed impressive. The Catatonians are certainly better threats than smelly, blobby fishes. And Cataclysm gives me the creeps (in a good way)...
Rump... well... all I can say is that he is at least no Grease Pit. If any character of the old series could have been removed without any second thought, then Grease Pit. In my eyes is Rump simply a Grease pit that went Limburger's way. Not overly smart, but snobby, arrogant and greedy. That's at least a bit better than an oil covered moron with 4 teeth.

The bikes. I guess I have to admit that i'm more a sci-fi fan and less a bike fan so I find the focus on more plot than bikes not THAT bad. And the choices are okay so far. It just riddled me sometimes how the old series could have that high tech bikes with so many functions, while Throttle's bike had only 4 or 5 buttons on the control panel (and i must note here that I wondered about that as kid already!).

By the way... kids...
Yes, also here must we admit, it's a kids show. And the argument that kids today are less about bikes and Rock'N'Roll can't be denied, but I studied kid's program choices (in my development to become educator) and I must say here that kids are open minded. Why are Animes so successful? because kids started to watch them, this simple. Some kids will also start looking the bros and from the fun factor will surely some stick to it. For sure enough to keep the fire burning. So don't call the show dead because it appeals more kids humor while most kids rather watch a critter beaming out of a ball and fight each other (I hate THAT show... -.-).

So... over all... simply stay forward looking. Nothing is set in stones and also the bros not. Room for improvement is always there and messed colors can be patched up too, when the next upgrade comes for the bros.

That's what I keep hoping anyway...LOL

I haven't -seen- the new series, but I've been reading up on it as much as is possible, but at least -storywise- it's great. (Although there have been a few things that get my eyebrow raised, but I'll get over those I think. :))

There's always hope for a run in with a paint can...(LOL I think everyone must hate me 'cause I keep bringing that up...I've been trying not to do it though.)

Hi guys, I'm new here at RedPlanet, but I've been a fan of Biker Mice
since it first aired way back in 1993.

Strange as it may seem, the only reason i got hooked on to the show was because of the *SIGH* Vinnie/Charley relationship. It wouldn't matter to me if they're now HORRIBLY DISPROPORTIONED or don colors that BURN LIKE LEMON JUICE, as long as they keep the storylines, predominantly the said Vinnie/Charley relationship, intact, I'll still watch it with as much, er, passion as I did before.

And it looks like they're doing a good job. ;)

P.S. Remember Charley kissing Vinnie on the last episode of the 1st series? I hope they'll resolve that in a future ep.

I have noticed a few people saying how the bros seem to be more skinny.

This is kind of true but when I watched the clips on you tube I noticed that compared to the TV they have been squashed up a bit which has kind of elongating everything.

Modos body hasnt changed much but everyone else seems to have.

But the actuall story line is great as ever and animation. Over all I am really enjoying the new ones and look forward to my saterdays.

Thanks SpaceAge you have hit the nail on the head. The conversion of the clips on the Internet to Flash squeezes them to 4:3 from 16:9 which is the current TV standard. Going from 1.78 to 1.33 makes a huge difference.

When I watched last weeks trailer I noticed how squashed it looked, so I played it back a few times before it was on and I noticed a difference.

I haven't been watching the trailers so much, so I'm afraid I kind of missed it, but it's very good ya noticed it SpaceAge!

Well, the solution to the problem I can give for now, is to make a letterboxed version for youtube/google video.

It will create a black back above and under the video, keeping the aspect ration as it should be. It isn't too hard to create, just have to use the right little tool :)

*had noticed that before*

I had a cap up that I'd stretched out a bit that showed they looked better, but took it down.

And yeah, letterboxing will keep them at the proper ratio.

After much hesitating I have finally taken the plunge and joined a BMFM forum.

Well, I have vague memories of the original series, but as I was only ten at the time it was only after discovering the new series by accident that I returned to the fold (hence the username).

And I love it!

I must confess, since my memories of the original series are so vague, I'm not in the best of positions to compare (though I have been mugging up desperately and am looking into getting videos of the original series).

The new build of the Mice doesn't really seem noticeable on TV; it's only in stills where it really stands out (Vinnie in particular is quite startlingly thin).

Still, the stories and the wit is still there (I still haven't got over the fact that one of the villains is a blatant parody of Richard Branson); there was a show stopping moment involving Throttle, Carbine and Charley in the last episode that was pure TV gold.

So, very much thumbs up from me.

I like the new series as much as the old one, just in different ways.
My only wish would be for the producers to make a "flashback episodes/season" so we know what happends after "Once upon a time on mars part 3" and how the plutarkians got beaten.
Limburger already said it in the new series, but it would have been cooloer to see it.

hmm I miss the old character styles but I guess these characters are something kids can relate to since you don't see too many guys with muscles upon muscles walking around but what I hope is they bring a Throttle and Charley hint to the screen. Yes I admit it, I am a huge Charley and Throttle fan.

I guess things are different in NY ;)

Here in the UK we don't see too many seven-foot mice walking around (with or without the muscles upon muscles.)

Personally, I'm liking the new series plenty!
Is it my imagination, or has the new series damped down the flirting generally compared to the old days?
Or do you think it's just that the plotlines may be stronger so the flirting isn't so much in the foreground?

I think it has been toned down... however, there have been one or two moments which could almost suggest that Charley and Vinnie have actually reached some sort of understanding (at last!). Or is that just wishful thinking?

Well, if Throttle and Carbine can have their 'romantic' moments in the new series, it would only be fair Vinnie and Charley would get equal chances if anything is happening between them.

We just gotta wait and see. But that doesn't stop anyone to write fics about it :)

Well I've seen a lot of Biker Mice Fans have gone to Anime so I guess they must have listened to the fans and gone with a anime style which is what most kids like these days.
