Aspects of Love #1: Charley's Choice

The first of a couple of flash fics for Valentine's Day - the time of year when Vinnie is buried under thousands of cards.

***

Charley paced up and down, her fingers unconsciously tapping together. Eventually she gave a grunt of frustration, and hit the wall as if it had mortally offended her. This was stupid! She’s wanted this for more than ten years, and now she was going to give it away! But she had to… in the long run, it would probably be best for both of them…
Probably…
She was going to have to tell Vinnie they had no future together.
“I mean, come on! He’s a mouse! He comes from a million miles away! What have we got in common?!” A voice, irritatingly calm, replied in her head,
Where do we begin?

“What would my parents think? Or my friends?” But still that little traitor voice argued:
Why should you care what they think? It’s your life!
“But… he’s got an ego the size of a planet! You hate guys like that… think of Rod Van-Hamm!”
Do you honestly think Vinnie’s anything like him?
“He thinks he’s so good-looking…”
And isn’t he? You’ve known him long enough to appreciate that.
“Well, okay… But he shouldn’t crow about it!”
Justifiable pride?
“That’s how he thinks!”
Then we’re on the same wavelength.
“We’re not! The guy’s a speed-demon! A danger-addict!”
And don’t you find that a little exciting…?
“ I want to be romanced!”
And? You’re the perceptive one! You’ve seen his sensitive side!
“Maybe… but a bit of old world chivalry wouldn’t go amiss. Modo manages that.”
Chivalry?! This is the guy who’s saved you… who knows how many times? This is the guy who pretty much every day risks his life for others. Besides, the poor lug loves you.
“I’m just another girl to him…”
Oh, come on! You don’t seriously believe that, do you?
Her reverie was interrupted by the sound of bikes pulling up outside. The bros appeared, and Charley found herself face to face with Vinnie.
This is it, girl. This is where you break his heart… She looked up at him, and was confronted by that cute, silly smile of his.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, sweetheart!” he greeted her joyfully. His tail whipped out and suddenly she was in his arms. She sighed. Who was she kidding? She loved him – and whatever the future brought, they’d face it together.
“Happy Valentine’s Day” she smiled. “And here’s to many more…”

Hahaha, adorable. I love the calm rationality of that lil' voice in Charley's head. ;-)

really sweet story. Like Bikachic wrote, I loved the calm voice of reason in Charley's head.

I just keep reading this beauty over and over again. I can just imagine Charley pacing around looking frustrated! :)

So you think that I'm just the usual pretty girl too locked up in the fiction world to notice the real one?

Well... you're right.
