Hey there Criterion guys!
I was wondering if the old episodes of BMFM will be put into dvd box sets or something. It would be really really awesome if that happened.
http://www.petitiononline.com/bikermfm/petition.html The petition (started by myself a while ago) has almost 1500 signatures on it.
Since BMFM is so international, a few years ago we decided that a few special features would be nice, like: include Finnish and Dutch as language options; definitely interviews with Tom Tataranowicz, Rick Ungar, Bob and Susan Forward, and the voice actors; perhaps a 'behind the scenes' sort of thing; picture gallery of the characters and their voice actors; and definitely the few episodes that were produced, but never aired of season 4.
I'm sure that we (the forum members) would all be willing to pitch in on a fan gallery sort of thing....'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' had something like that on one of their dvd sets.
As much as this idea is so brilliant and money makey (unless our numbers are that small those responsible just do not care no matter how much clamouring gets done) I'm not sure if they have that kind of power (or one would presume it was done or in the works already).
It can't hurt to bring it up. Sometimes it's just getting the right person to take notice.
Definitely bring it up, my comment was more a theoretical explanation for why it hasn't been done yet :) I would very much like for the right person to note and maybe even act.
I doubt Criterion can do that much about. They ofcourse have more resources no doubt, but they don't own the old series copyright things. That lays with Disney for what I know (and Criterion).
I've seen your ideas for it a while ago and it looked cool and all. But I'll support this nevertheless.
Copyright. One big hell.
They COULD always talk to Disney about it though. FOR EXAMPLE: If you ever watched 'Twin Peaks', you may know that one season was done by paramount and the other season (only two seasons) was done by colombia. I'm pretty sure it was those two companies. Anyway, the first season has been out on DVD for a long time, but the other company was being stubborn and ONLY released the second season a few months ago. The series aired in the early '90s (pre-dating 'X-Files'). So, the creator/director of the show David Lynch had to approach the second season company.
I'd really like this to happen! Many old cartoons have been getting the DVD Set threatment lately. As far as I know BMFM season 1 is released, but only in the UK, and has the Jetix logo on the cover, so I guess it's a Disney release.
Actually, if you go to play.uk (the store site) they do have the original series on DVD. I tried to buy some, but apparently they are only available in the UK. (Dammit, stuck here in the States and can't buy any!!) They were on sale for less that 20, if i remember correctly. Here's hoping someone can get them and burn me a copy.
Way to get the ball rolling... Same here for me inuficcrzy I tried to order it online as well and didn't realize till it was almost too late that delivery doesn't extend to the states.
Here's a question for anyone stateside who did get the Season 1 dvd release... Did they make any changes to it, like edits? I'm hearing that they did, which is a bit upsetting, but I can't confirm.
And I want Seasons 2 and 3 and 2006... Please! Anyone! ^^;
They cut the "too violent" scenes. It's best if you just go with the VHS's, the quality is crappy compared to DVD but you get it *all* and not just *some* of the episodes. (keep a eye on Youtube and eBay for second/third season episodes. 47, 49 and 28 have already been uploaded on Youtube. you're also in luck if you know how to use torrents, there are some episodes in danish [dutch?] on the Pirate Bay, as well as five in english. otherwise... you should invest in learning a new language [finnish and german are your best bets!] so you can watch the other-language episodes.)
Actually I think Jetix did those editings because of timing issues, not censorship. Each episode has been cut to approximately 19 minutes instead of 22.
And here is the list of those etitings for the first season I made with a frame-by-frame comparation of the old and new editions.
The Timecodes are indicated for the PAL version of video.

see? toldja, they shot it to hades :(
Hrmmm... I wonder how much it would actually cost to buy the rights, the material both original and restored, and re-release it without any edit... More than I make as a sec. guard, that's for sure... But I do wonder...
it'll take more than money... disney ownes the original BMFM rights. They're well.. XD ever see the simpsons?
Yeah, and the Dis Biz doesn't let go of anything without a fight... **sighs**
I got BMFM on DVD from Ebay, just waiting for the one I ordered to come in the mail. Stupid Postal Service! May as well live in the days of the Pony Express!
How did Disney get the Biker Mice rights? This is the first time I've ever heard of them having the rights to Biker Mice from Mars.
Disney bought Marvel. Marvel owns- owned the rights. Qid pro quo or something like that.
I think it's more cat pro quo... What's mine is mine, what's yours is mine... ^^;
Yeah, that's it! :D
Speaking of comic companies- I have all three issues of the Biker Mice comic on my computer. And I didn't pay anything for them :) Want?
lol YES! XD
Okay, uh. *taps computer* This will take a little while and a lot of uploading to photobucket. Can you imbed stuff on this forum or is that disabled?
I didn't know Disney owned them -.- now i hate Disney! (sorry Aladdin xD)
So we can't send a post in to Disney and ask them? maybe if we're polite enough xD? and show them how many people who really want to see the original bros' again! or the newer (teenage models, if I may say so!)......
*sigh*
I imagine they would give in eventually, if demand was high enough- for the longest time, another cartoon called SWAT Kats was suffering from the same thing- very little was available on hard copy such as VHS or DVD. Then, just last year, Warner Bros released the entire series on DVD, as well as a host of extras.
Makes you drool just thinking about it, doesn't it?
ooooooooooooh, I hope they'll do the same to the Biker Mice!!! :D I'm in love with the serie xD even though my Mom thiks I'm too old for that -.-
Droll? ... no no that's too little hehe :)!
I would faint and THEN droll on the floor, having nice dreams about the DVD boxes! :)
Personally, I think I'd sacrifice some of the dumber episodes (Academy of Hard Knocks, for one) just to see the character sheets. I found a early cel of Modo, and I must say .. I'm glad *that* wasn't the final design.
Omg! You have a link? :p
i just also put mine name on to the list!I really, really want the dvd's.I hope so that will listing to the 2336 fans that already signed up.

Hear hear! I'm totally in for this one! Make it seasons 1-3 + whole set of 2006 and you'll have me stalking in front of the store a whole night waiting for the publishing morning.
About the languages:
I love listening them in english as well as in the finnish (notice, in the old dubs, not new re-mastered versions.... they switch voice actors in middle of scenes to tidy up things)
Dubbs: English, Finnish, Dutch
Subs: Finnish, Dutch, Swedish (finnish markets requires subs in both swe&fin)
Extra suggestions:
- maybe some original arts and sketches
- interviews (voice actors, creators)
- clip collections of the songs :D
- Character bios (with ages, etc basic figures, maybe a LITTLE bit of background info (Modo's family, Karbunkle - human or alien? .....)
Like the monk said for Buddha, make it one with everything
