The Remember Alex Brown Foundation

I don't know how many of of you watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition. But, this week, Ty and the gang made over the house of a family who recently lost their 17 year old daughter. She was texting while driving, and wasn't wearing her seatbelt. A foundation has been created in her memory, and it is designed to remind people about the dangers of texting and driving.
There is a Website where you can go and hear about Alex, and sign a pledge to not text and drive. There are also "R.A.B" bands that you put on your thumb, to remind you not to text and drive. The bands have been shown on Extreme Makeover Home Edition tonight, and I assume that they will eventually be available for purchase through the website.
I think that this is SO important, and it can save lives.
I signed the pledge. Will you?

Now I love the site, and I respect the admins and mods there... but seriously....
You get a HOUSE for your idiot daughters dumb-aft decision of stupidity that could have caused more than her death?
Sorry she died... but darn.... maybe I should see if I could get a NEW house for my self because we're in dept and expecting... seriously....*Head desk*
BTW: Ontario passed a law, Texting while driving is Illegal.... some states need to look at that... And last time I check.... So was wearing a seat belt.... yeah....
Sounds like it was for a good cause and all. I really don't understand people who desperately NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to talk on the phone or send a message while driving. It's very rarely a life or death situation that people receive a phone call or get a text message by a certain time/immediately. Seriously.
Though having said that I've told my sister in law not to use the fucking phone when my kids are in the car she's driving. Some people seem to think it's okay because they've done it heaps of times and never had an accident which obviously means they're good at it and it's fine.
I agree, texting and talking while driving isn't smart but hell parents especially MOTHERS bitch at their kids saying 'Don't let me catch you or find out you're texting or talking while driving or else...' yeah yeah, my mom was like that when I got my license! But yet each time I got in trouble and my car got 'grounded' meaning only mom or dad were allowed to drive MY flipping car, what were they doing while driving? TALKING AND TEXTING taking their eyes, attention, focus and concentration off the road in front of them! But when I brought it up at home saying 'Hey you guys tell US not to talk and text while driving because we could get into an accident well what about you guys?! Mom, Melinda called you FIVE TIMES and each time instead of hitting the lovely 'Ignore' Button you chose to answer Melinda's call then she texted you FIVE TIMES and again you shifted your attention, concentration, focus and your eyes from off the road to your cell phone to return her text message! Dad you're no better either! Mitch called you twelve times then followed up with twelve texts that you eagerly replied to all the while prattling on and on about how WE should keep our focus, concentration, attention and eyes on the road ahead of us to prevent a serious accident! Well guess what's gonna happen for the same---no we'll make it hard on you two! No cell phones and no cars for the remainder of WINTER! How's that grab you! Until you take and graduate the same safety seminar that you forcefully enrolled us in, you two aren't getting behind any wheel of any car anytime soon! So from now until Summer, you'll be taking the City Bus or a Taxi to and from work so get used to buying bus passes! Since we're nice we started you off with February's bus pass! All you have to do is fill out the back and put it somewhere that you'll remember where it is to show the bus driver when you get on and you'll soon find out why I rarely ever take the city bus to and from work! I wasn't texting on my phone either! I wasn't driving, I was sitting in the drive way adjusting my mirrors so I had a clear view of behind me, I was also ensuring I had everything I needed for work in my bag when you so blatantly barged out screaming that I had been texting while driving! How can you text if your phone is turned off? If I get a message from someone it can WAIT until I'm not busy! But you guys just HAVE to URGENTLY answer ALL texts and calls coming in!'

Here in Australia the cops crack down on drivers without seat-belts and not just people who txt while driving but even people who talk on the phone (without hands free) while driving.
I fully agree with you. I mean it is sad that she died, but she chose to take two dangerous things to do while driving and mix them together so I am more grateful that there wasn't more people killed because of her actions.
